West Seattle
West Seattle is the iconic jut of land just to the South West of Downtown Seattle, giving superb views of the city landscape of Seattle across Elliott Bay and to the West, sunset views of the towering Olympic Mountains with the Puget Sound in the foreground. And for those who live here, it’s Seattle’s best kept secret: Neighborhoods with friendly small town feel and great walkability. Just a short drive or water taxi from downtown, this laid-back neighborhood is home to offbeat shops, natural beauty, and plenty of character.
This part of the city is mostly residential, with pockets of commerce and lively main streets (especially along California Ave) and swaths of view properties on its many hillsides. West Seattle is famous for having that “small-town feeling,” which means that residents are involved and active! Residential neighborhoods are varied and distinctive and create the perfect blend in West Seattle. All offer fine schools, great shopping, green parks and open spaces, easy access to libraries and views of snowcapped mountains and shining waterways that are simply spectacular by any standard.
ACTIVITIES
Getting bored in West Seattle would be quite the accomplishment. On a sunny day, there isn’t much better of a Seattle destination. Activities can be easily found for anyone. Walk on the beach, kite surfing, beach-combing, or sit & watch the ferries set off into the sunset – check, check, check and check! Exploring Alki Beach and taking in the views is on everybody’s to-do list. However, there are other parks that may be less popular but just as worthwhile, such as Schmitz, Mee Kwa Mooks, and Lincoln parks. Taking a stroll down West Seattle’s California Avenue and Admiral Way to find anything from; music stores, bars, bakeries, salons, and pawn shops. The uniqueness of the neighborhood makes it special.
